This month we celebrated two birthdays. The first one was Sylvie’s on the 8th September. We initiated a secret mission in the kitchen of our class. Every child painted a circle with watercolour paint on gummed paper and put a fingerprint on a wooden photo frame. Two group photos were taken and printed to complete the present for Sylvie. Subsequently, we continued our secret mission doing the same activities for...........to be revealed in the October Blog.
The second birthday was Ella’s on the 12th September. She walked around the round table (with a candle lit, the candle representing the sun), in her hand she carried the coloured globe. Each round represented one year, Ella walked 6 rounds! We sang the song with the months of the year
and the birthday song. She showed us photos of her birth and each year after on an A4. Everyone loved seeing their friend on the photos. Then it was time to bring in the cake, blow the candles and enjoy her delicious treat.........suddenly it was very quiet............
Monday morning 8th September we spent outside at the another school in Vétroz. We learned about road safety by the police-officer named Claude. He first showed and explained all the items a police-officer carries at all times. He even let us touch a bullet. It was reassuring to hear that during his long professional career he never needed to use his weapon while on duty. After the introduction we all followed Claude in a line as he taught us the safest way to cross the road: Stop at the boarder of the road, look and listen to the left, to the right, to the left, when free put one arm horizontal in front of you and go straight to the other side of the road (shortest way).
The reason why it is important that a child puts an arm stretched in front is to be clearly visible for others.
We’d like to take this opportunity to talk about safety at the parking and the walk to the
playground. Cars have become bigger and bigger in size over time, rendering the contrast with the size of children even more impressive. To avoid accidents can you please make sure to always park your car at the parking lot and walk with your child/children until entering the playground?
It is lovely to see everyone arrive in class in the morning, carrying their own backpack, putting their belongings at their place in the cloakroom, shoes off, slippers on, water bottle in the big box and the day starts.
Some children know what they like to do first, others like to check out the shelves before they decide, or observe a friend in silence who’s focused on an activity. If a child
has a question for the teacher he or she doesn’t shout out her name, but puts a hand on the
shoulder or hand, it’s the Montessori way to ask attention and maybe your child/children has/have started doing the same at home.
Alonso recently moved from Spain to Switzerland and started in our class Monday 29th
September. The children who speak Spanish made him feel at ease, which was beautiful to see.
