This month we celebrated 4 birthdays! Noham hit it off and celebrated his 4th birthday, Akatsuki and Lana turned 5 years, whereas Marlon celebrated his 6th birthday! We enjoyed a lot of delicious cakes!
During 2 Wednesdays this month parents could come to our class with their child/children to see presentations given by each of their children. It was a special event. On a normal school day there are a lot of children in our class, this time only Léa and Tera were present and the child couldpresent his/her favourite activities to their family having the whole classroom to themselves, it was exiting for all of us.
Grinding coffee from the Practical Life area was a favourite one, as well as the insets at the
Language Arts area, float and sink from the Culture and Science area, the binomial cube from the Sensorial area, the 100 tablet from the Mathematics area and many other activities.
At the Montessori Exhibition 1st of May we shall be able exhibit the photos taken during these Wednesdays. We sincerely look forward to that upcoming special event.
It is clear to the children how the system in a Montessori class works, but for outsiders it can be hard to imagine. Some might think children are allowed to do everything they want, that is true if a child knows how to do an activity after it got presented and if it is available. The child takes the activity and thereafter tidies up and puts it back so it is available again to other children.
A Montessori environment is a peaceful and prepared environment. All the activities are jobs from easy to more difficult. Children will make themselves proud by being able to do an activity from A
to Z without help, being focused and in their bubble of full concentration.
The beauty of the 3-6-year class is that children who feel at ease can present and share activities out of all these areas with their friend(s) independent of age. It is really a beautiful miracle if the children are presenting, observing and learning amongst themselves.
As always we look forward to the next month with familiar and new activities in your child/
children’s company.
Warmest regards,
Léa, Caroline, Nicole and Tera.
