Maureen was a guest in our class for the first two weeks of October. She observed the children’s activities. She does her training to become a Montessori teacher and for that reason she was with us.
Friday the 4th October we took the bus and got dropped off at St.-Séverin to harvest grapes. It was a beautiful day! We started with a snack giving us energy to start the activity. The children enthusiastically cut bunches of grapes and upon having completed the work we walked to the Parc de Jeux in Conthey.
Sylvie transported all the backpacks in her car to the venue to make the walk more comfortable. At our arrival we collected our bags and sat down together to enjoy our
home-brought picnic. The cherry on the pie was the playtime thereafter. The children enjoyed this gorgeous playground. As all good things come to an end, we took the bus to school to be on time for being picked up by the mums and/or dads.
We have a special birthday ritual in our class. A candle is lit on the round table to represent the sun. We sing the song with the months of the year and the birthday child subsequently takes the coloured globe, whereas we count the rounds the child walks around the candle out loud to mark the special day. This month Jeanne Simonson walked 6 rounds, to celebrate her 6th birthday, Aria did 4 rounds to celebrate hers. One adult celebrated her birthday in our class and walked around the globe, do you remember? Yes, Léa! Let’s do a little addition and multiplication. Add Jeanne’s and Aria’s 6 and 4 years respectively, then multiply that answer by 3, that’s how many rounds Léa walked around the sun.
The last day before the holiday the art exhibition took place at our school. Mountains, bikers, grapes, hedgehogs, alpine flowers, autumn trees and larch houses were made by the children in our class, not to forget the piece of art you made outside with your family! The lake! All the visitors could enjoy the finger food prepared by the children that afternoon and the delicious pumpkin soup made by Sylvie!
The last day of October we celebrated Halloween with a story, song and craft. Sylvie prepared halloween cakes for lunch, which we enjoyed outside in the sun.
